It is not often that Perth is the host City for the Australasian Under 17’s Badminton Championship, over Easter during the 3 – 11 of April. The best from the west with all guns blazing, will compete for the coveted titles. In amongst the 9 Australian and 5 New Zealand Teams, WA has 2 teams, regional team from Geraldton and the State Team, and with over 150 competitors, Perth will be raining with feathered shuttle cocks during this prestigious Tournament.

Badminton being the fastest racquet sport in the world. Speeds over 300km/hr have been recorded of shuttle cocks flying during matches, at the professional level. Expect our young guns blazing away during their smashes with cocks flying at over 200km/hr, requiring very fast reflexes to return them. Diving all over the court to intercept opponent’s smashes, recovering quickly with firm footings to receive the next shot, be it another smash, drive or drop net shot, all in a flash of seconds, with hearts pounding and breaths short.

The State Team Coach Himanshu Thacker, has seen it all in his illustrious career as a Junior winning the All India Nationals in 2000 and 2001 and as Representative of India, in the national squad at the Hungarian International and the Toulouse International in 2001. Himanshu sharing his secrets and skills every weekend over the last 5 months, pushing everyone to their limits, has moulded the Team into a fighting force, all to be proud of.

Be there for the excitement, fast and fury of Badminton. The sport is not for the faint hearted. See the full colour and spectacle of the young champions of tomorrow, at the Kingsway Indoor Sport Stadium, 130 Kingsway Road, Madeley 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
